Arbroath FC Community Trust Soup Bags

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic poverty in Arbroath and Angus is increasing. The public sector and third sector and working hard to support local people during this difficult time however there is an emerging need for cooked meals to be made available.

Arbroath has 3 data zones within the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation, Arbroath Harbour, Cliffburn and Warddykes. The Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) is the Scottish Government’s official tool to identify areas of multiple deprivation across Scotland. It brings together indicators across seven ‘domains’ – Income, Employment, Education, Health, Access to Services, Crime and Housing.

Arbroath FC Community Trust have partnered with Stirfresh who will be donating fresh soup packs which will be made into a soup bag which will make a pot of soup ‘Lichtie Broth’ that could provide 8 servings.

Wild Thyme who will be open on Christmas Day have agreed to distribute the bags to those in need.

This is a great project that we hope to expand in the new year – have a great Christmas and Souper New Year!

The Plan

In Arbroath we have found it difficult to source premises to make the soup due to COVID restrictions however Wild Thyme a local café has offered to partner with us as they are open on Christmas day.

Alongside the AFCCT offer they will be giving free drinks and cakes so this would complement their provision.

On 24th December 2020 we will deliver 20 soup bags which will be distributed on Christmas Day (recipe attached)

In the bag there will also be some leaflets from NHS Tayside on eating healthy on a budget.

Another great initiative by Arbroath FC Community Trust
