Saturday’s meeting between Arbroath and Airdrie was set up to be a blockbuster affair, with both sides heading into the game with their sights set on ending the day as Group E winners.
In the end, Arbroath had far too much and ran out 3-0 winners at Gayfield, securing their last 16 place in the process. Attacking midfielder McKenna was the stand-out player in last season’s Championship, finishing as top scorer and picking up Player of the Season accolades.
His impressive form has continued into this season’s Premier Sports Cup groups and he shone on Saturday, firing home his first goal of the season en route to victory.
