Tommy Yule signed for Arbroath from Beith Juniors in 1973 and would go on to make 312 appearances, scoring 57 times until 1983. Known as a tricky winger, he was top scorer at the Club in seasons 1978/79 and 1979/80 with 9 and 10 goals respectively. One of the highlights of his time at Gayfield came in season 1976-1977 when Arbroath reached the quarter final of the Scottish League Cup after beating Hibernian 2-1 in a replay at Easter Road. He had scored in the 1-1 draw with Hibernian at Gayfield in the first match and then grabbed the equaliser in the replay before setting up John Fletcher for the winner.
