The man who became known as the ‘Prince of Goalkeepers’ during his career in the late 19th century as custodian for a Sunderland side that was considered to be the greatest Club side in the world at the time. He remains the only player to be capped for Scotland while playing for Arbroath between 1885 and 1890, before moving to Weirside and helping the Black Cats win 4 First Division titles. He then moved to Liverpool in 1904 and played his last game for them aged 41 in 1908. Ned Doig was capped 6 times for Scotland during his career and died in 1919 during the Spanish flu epidemic.
