John Petrie signed for Arbroath from nearby Club Strathmore and in 1885, aged only 18 scored a still British record of 13 goals in a game in the infamous 36-0 match against Bon Accord. He moved to play in the Irish league for Distillery in 1891 before returning to Arbroath eventually becoming kitman, trainer and groundsman. The Arbroath street, Petrie Way is named in his honour.
