Recently retired Club Chairman John Christison, was presented with two very special medals last night at Gayfield at the end of the Annual General Meeting.
New Arbroath FC Chairman Mike Caird celebrated John’s tenure, legacy and commitment to Arbroath FC with a toast which looked back over John’s time at the helm of the club.
From John being lifted over the Gayfield turnstiles as a boy by his father in the 1950’s to joining the committee in 1989 when current coach John Young was Manager.
Then taking over from Jim King as Chairman in 1993 and leading the club through some fantastic times, incredible players and great managers and some outstanding results. Who could forget that Steven Doris goal at Parkhead?
John enjoyed great success as Chairman but undoubtedly winning the League 2 Championship twice – the only 2 honours in our club’s history will be remembered as his legacy.
John was bestowed with the title of Honorary President before being presented the medals by Mike and Club Secretary Dr. Gary Callon.
John was presented with a special engraved SPFL Ladbrokes League 2 medal with maroon ribbon, which was the same as the ones given out to the players during the presentation at Stirling and in recognition of the incredible work and commitment that he has given to Arbroath FC and the SPFL.
The second smaller medal is the official SPFL 2016/17 title winners medal that is only for players who have met the criteria during the season to receive one.
These special Championship medals are fitting reward and tribute to his reign as chairman.
Thank you John from everyone at Arbroath FC and all the Lichties near and far.
C’mon the Lichties!
