Jason Thomson
Arbroath can confirm today that our right back Jason Thomson has asked to be released from his contract and has left the club.
We would like to thank Jason for his 4 seasons at the club, where he has been a pivotal part of our back line.
Jason Thomson joined the club in the summer of 2018 from Raith Rovers and helped us win League One in his debut season.
Jason was part of the best defence in League One which was pivotal in clinching the Ladbrokes League One Title.
In his debut season in 2018/2019, Jason made 38 starts (31 League, 4, League Cup, 2 Challenge Cup and 1 Scottish Cup) with another appearance from the bench and scored 2 goals – both coming against Brechin City.
In season 2019/2020 Jason made 24 starts (17 League, 4 League Cup, 1 Challenge Cup and 2 Scottish Cup) with a substitute appearance in the League and scored 2 goals against Alloa Athletic and Partick Thistle.
In the shortened season of 2020/2021, Jason made 25 starts in the Championship and another 5 in the League Cup and scored a goal against Montrose.
Jason missed the start of the 2021/2022 season after undergoing a small knee procedure but was soon back playing in our famous back 4 and made 23 starts (17 Championship, 2 Play-off, 3 Scottish Cup and 1 Challenge Cup) scoring goals against Forfar Athletic and Greenock Morton as we pushed Kilmarnock all the way, with Jason again being part of the team that finished the season with the best defensive record.
This season Jason has made 5 starts in the Premier League Cup, with 3 starts in the Championship and another from the bench and also got a goal against Cowdenbeath.
In total Jason has made 130 appearances for Arbroath, scoring 8 goals, lifted the League One Trophy and helped us finish second in the Scottish Championship.
We would like to thank him for his time with Arbroath.
Jason and his family will always be welcome at Gayfield.
Thank you Jason!
