EWEN WEST IS APPOINTED CLUB CHAIRMAN OF ARBROATH FOOTBALL CLUB

Following on from Tuesday’s announcement of Mike Caird’s decision to step down from his position, we are delighted to officially welcome long standing Vice Chair, Ewen West as the new Chairman of Arbroath Football Club.

Having joined Arbroath FC in January 2014 as the Club’s Safety Officer, Ewen instantly impressed all at Gayfield with his drive, business acumen and experience within Scottish sport and the wider Event sector and it wasn’t long before he was officially welcomed onto the Board of Directors to bring his expertise to the Boardroom.

In May 2018, the then incoming Chair, Mike Caird appointed Ewen as his Vice Chairman and during the next six years, he would not only expertly help guide the Club through the pandemic thanks to his knowledge and experience but he would play a key role as part of the Board which would oversee arguably one of the most successful periods in our 146 year history.

Ewen is a highly regarded figure within Scottish football representing the Club at various different Committees and the knowledge and experience he has gained has been to the benefit of Arbroath FC and to drive forward its development both on and off the pitch..

Ewen spoke on his appointment; “Firstly can I thank Mike for all his dedication and service during his time as a Director and Chairman of Arbroath FC. I have had the pleasure of working very closely with Mike and have had the benefit of his vast experience of Scottish Football and the daily operation of a professional Football Club.

I am deeply honoured to become Chairman of this wonderful Football Club and I will work tirelessly with the Board of Directors to ensure that the Club is operated professionally, within its financial means and always be challenging for success on the pitch.

I share everyone’s disappointment at the outcome of this Season but I wish to reassure all Staff, Sponsors and Supporters that the hard work  has already begun to turn around the Club’s fortunes. The Club has enjoyed a number of consecutive years playing in the SPFL Championship and it is our clear ambition to return to competing in that League. This will not be an easy task as League 1 is very competitive with a number of very good teams who will provide stiff opposition for the Arbroath FC. The Management Team and the Players are fully aware of this challenge and the standards that will be expected of them by the Club’s Directors and Supporters next Season.

Success can only be achieved by everyone connected to the Club working together and having a shared commitment of making the Club the best it possibly can be both on and off the pitch. I look forward to next Season with optimism, determination and positivity and hopefully creating more special memories from all connected with the Club.”
