10 man Arbroath were knocked out of the IRN-BRU Cup by Dunfermline Athletic at East End Park on Tuesday night. Former Lichtie Andy Ryan was signed by Alan Johnston earlier in the day and his first half double secured the Pars progress into the second round.
Ryan smashed home a volley in the 24th minute to open his Pars account, before 6 minutes later Arbroath were reduced to 10 men when Ricky Little was adjudged to have brought down David Hopkirk as the last man and was shown a straight red card.
Andy Ryan scored his second goal of the match in the 41st minute when he headed in from a corner kick.
The score line didn’t quite tell the true story as the Lichties came out and had an incredible second half where they carved out several great chances with Steven Doris coming close to a brilliant lob over Sean Murdoch, with Danny Denholm also smashing a free kick off the Dunfermline cross bar. Dunfermline were reduced to 10 men in stoppage time when Connor Duthie picked up two yellow cards.
The Lichties and Dick Campbell can be proud of his side with Thomas O’Brien immense at the back with Blair Yule and Steven Doris not far behind. Bryan Prunty’s passion adhering him deeper into Lichtie hearts.
