Dundee 2 – 0 Arbroath
The Lichties lost out in Dundee this afternoon with two second half goals from the hosts sealing the points.
Arbroath made one change from last weekend with James Craigen coming in for Bobby Linn.
Dundee made a bright start as they attacked the Bob Shankly stand but didn’t really capitalise on their advantage by testing Derek Gaston.
It was in fact Arbroath who had the first chance in the 14th minute as Michael McKenna struck a fine 25 yard drive towards goal which Dundee keeper Adam Legzdins did well to save.
Jason Thomson won Arbroath their second penalty in a week after he was quickest to the ball with Malachi Fagan-Walcott stepping on his foot and Referee Willie Collum pointed to the spot in the 32nd minute
Michael McKenna stepped up, but Legzdins guessed correctly and saved the penalty kick.
Jordan Marshall forced Derek Gaston into a save in the 36th minute when he struck from distance, then just before the break Jason Cummings missed a good chance pouncing on a blocked shot from Fagan-Walcott.
Half Time – Dundee 0 – 0 Arbroath
Dundee really should have opened the scoring just 5 minutes after the restart when the ball fell to Danny Mullen in the Arbroath box but he shot over from just 8 yards out.
Although Mullen would open the scoring just 5 minutes later. Paul McMullan managed to go past two Arbroath players down the wing before crossing into the box where Mullen headed the ball into the net despite a brave effort from Thomas O’Brien and Derek Gaston to keep the ball out.
The goal definitely got a reaction from Arbroath and the Lichties won a series of corners but really didn’t threaten the Dundee goal.
Lewis Moore replaced Ben Williamson in the 64th minute as Arbroath tried to inject more pace into the attack.
A Dale Hilson free kick in the 67th minute whizzed past Legzdins far post after James Craigen was fouled by substitute Charlie Adam.
Bobby Linn came on for Michael McKenna in the 74th minute as Arbroath looked for inspiration from their substitute.
Max Anderson doubled Dundee’s lead in the 82nd minute after the ball wasn’t properly cleared. Paul McMullan was again the architect and Anderson was in the right place to tuck the ball into the net.
Arbroath’s only remaining chance of the game was from another corner kick but Jason Thomson’s header was over the bar.
Full Time – Dundee 2 – 0 Arbroath
A disappointing result despite a good performance but proof again that the Scottish Championship is ruthless and highlights the fine margins between winning and losing.
The team are already looking forward and know that they will have to rally again into next weekend.
C’mon the Lichties
