Arbroath FC can confirm that goalkeeper Darren Hill is to leave Gayfield as his second stint comes to an end. Darren leaves Gayfield with a League One Winners Medal to add to his to 3rd Division Winners medal won in 2010/2011!
Darren started his career with Falkirk before moving to East Stirlingshire for the 2007 / 2008 season before John McGlashan brought Darren to Gayfield in January 2008.
Hilly, as he would become known to the fans, made his debut against Elgin City on the 19th January 2008 as the Lichties won 2-0 with Darren making 9 shut outs in the 21 games he would play in the remainder of the 2007/2008 season.
Daren made a further 38 appearances in the 2008-2009 season with 11 cleans sheets in the league, before making 43 appearances in the 2009-2010 season with 10 cleans sheets in the league.
In the 2010/2011 season Darren made 39 appearances, with 35 coming in the league and 11 league clean sheets as Arbroath lifted their first every trophy as they clinched the 3rd Division title with Paul Sheerin in charge and Hilly being a pivotal player in the title success.
In the following season, during 2011-2012 Darren made another 41 appearances with 6 cleans sheets in the old 2nd Division and a further shut out in the Scottish Cup.
As Darren entered the 2012-2013 season he only made 8 appearances (1 clean sheet) before being signed by Dick Campbell on the 24th January 2013 as he moved to Forfar Athletic.
The chance to move to Hamilton Academical in the 2014 / 2015 season and make the move to full time football followed before Darren returned to Station Park briefly before making the move to SJFA East Superleague side Linlithgow Rose in 2016 where Darren was playing before Dick Campbell signed him again for the Lichties in June 2018.
This season Darren started against Alloa Athletic (Betfred Cup), Elgin City, Annan Athletic, Edinburgh City (Irn-Bru Cup) and Airdrieonians (League). Darren was the hero up at Borough Briggs as he secured the extra point saving penalties from Bryan Cameron and Matthew Cooper in the Betred Cup.
Darren’s second spell with Arbroath ends with his second League Winners medal as he can add the League One medal to the 3rd Division medal won in 2010/2011.

21 Cup Starts – 2 Shut Outs
Total – 195 Starts and 50 Shut Outs
With 7 seasons in goals at Gayfield, Hilly has certainly became a part of the family and will be missed.
