A group of Dundee United legends hit the road this morning cycling from Dundee through Angus and then back to Dundee again to raise money for a very deserving charity.
Dundee United legends John Holt, Hamish McAlpine, Dave Narey, Paul Hegarty, Maurice Malpas and Dave Bowman were joined by the current “young” Dundee United manager Ray McKinnon amongst others. The group left from Tannadice early this morning and the bike run will see them visit all of the area’s senior football grounds, raising money for the Maggie’s Centre at Ninewells in the process.
“We start off at Tannadice in the morning, head for Arbroath, then Montrose and over to Brechin and Forfar before heading home, passing Dens Park on the way. “It’s 75 miles but Ray’s a lot younger than us so it shouldn’t be a problem for him!” said organiser John Holt before they headed off.
The cyclists were met by Arbroath FC Director Brian Cargill and his wife Teresa at Gayfield where they enjoyed some breakfast before heading on their way again. The players made time before heading to Montrose for a photograph with the SPFL League 2 trophy.
The group completed the “circuit” two years ago, raising several thousand pounds in the process and anyone wanting to contribute to the legends’ Maggies Centre fundraising can do so at justgiving.com/fundraising/John-Holt5 or by texting DUFC99 and the amount of their donation to 70070.
