Thoughts about Albert Henderson and Arbroath Football Club.
I played for St. Mirren for 10 years and Motherwell for one, before signing for Arbroath in 1973.
The next 5 years were the most enjoyable of my playing career. This was due to several factors, the main one being the influence of Albert Henderson. He was a most popular figure, who displayed great qualities, such as honesty, integrity and dedication to Arbroath F.C. It was a real pleasure and privilege to play for the Club, which had several marvellous players at that time. Again this was thanks to Albert’s powers of persuasion and insight.
I have so many fond memories of Arbroath, the supporters, the players and officials. To be remembered and invited back means so much to me.
I’ll finish with a memory, which , in my opinion epitomises the wonderful sense of humour which Albert possessed…..’many years ago there was an article in the Dundee newspaper reporting that , during the previous Saturday’s match at Gayfield, 3 footballs had been dispatched into the North Sea. When questioned about this, Albert commented, ‘ we are unworried about the situation, the coast – guards have been alerted !’
