Bobby said on the announcement of his ambassador role “I am extremely humbled to be asked to become an ambassador of Arbroath Football Club, also being the first player to have this honour bestowed is a huge honour. Anyone who knows me, will know the deep love and affection I have for the Club. I met with Mike Caird a few months ago and couldn’t believe it when he offered me this opportunity. When I joined eleven years ago, I quicky stuck up a wonderful bond with the fans and the Club and that has never been broken. I am really looking forward to embracing the ambassadorial role and like everything I have done in my career, I will give it my all. I have really missed everyone since departing but having the opportunity to be back in this capacity is exciting and I cannot wait see everyone again, I’d like to thank Mike Caird and Ewen West for giving me this opportunity”
Chairman Ewen West said “Bobby spent his whole career with Arbroath being a wonderful ambassador for the Club both on and off the park, and the deep and meaningful affection he holds with supporters both young and old is a credit to him. Since he left the Club last year, he has always continued to support us from the stands both home and away as well as with anything we asked him to get involved in. He’s been a wonderful servant to Arbroath and will continue to be so in the future with this significant appointment. Myself and the board are extremely delighted that Bobby has agreed to return and we are excited for him to support the Club and the supporters as we move forward”.
Mike Caird said “In my 25 years at the Club, there are just some players that stand out and you create a really close bond with, Bobby is certainly one of those and who I have a deep respect for, as a player but more importantly as a person, It was something I wanted to do before I retired and I am delighted that Bobby has agreed. He will be continue to be a huge asset for Arbroath and I am looking forward to seeing him at Gayfield more and more over in the coming months”.
