Arbroath vs St Johnstone – Match Preview
Premier Sports Cup – 2nd Round – Season 2021/22
Sunday 15th August 2021, Gayfield Park, Arbroath, 14:00pm kick off
Arbroath welcome St Johnstone to Gayfield just 3 days after the Perth side pushed Galatasary all the way on Thursday evening.
It will be the second fixture between the two sides within a month after St Johnstone ran out 4-1 winners at Gayfield on 21st July.
It was a scoreline that flattered the Premiership side and Dick Campbell will know his side will have to keep their concentration in this league cup match.
Arbroath look likely to be without Jason Thomson and Captain Thomas O’Brien who are both pivotal players in the Arbroath defence but it is hoped those are the only absentees.
Joel Nouble will be looking to his goal tally and is sure to give the St Johnstone defenders a torrid time with his pace and trickery.
With another big European match coming up for St Johnstone against Austrian side LASK, it is expected that Callum Davidson will make changes from the side that played on Thursday night.
Striker Chris Kane who was so pivotal against Galatasaray is suspended for this cup tie and that will be good news to the Arbroath defence.
Liam Gordon and Callum Booth who have both played for the Lichties on loan during their career could both run out at Gayfield once again.
If this match is a draw after 90 minutes it will go to extra time, and then penalties if required.
Teams can make 5 substitutions in 3 windows in the Premier Sports Cup, and also can make a further change in Extra Time.
This could be the largest crowd at Gayfield in 2 years so we hope you enjoy the game and get right behind the team.
C’mon the Lichties!
