The Lichties suffered their first defeat in Ladbrokes League One yesterday at the hands of East Fife. Using the old footballing cliché it was a game of two halves. With the wind at their backs East Fife took the lead in the 2nd minute when a Thomas O’Brien clearance spun off his boot and into the roof of the net. Steven Doris equalised for the Lichties in the 15th minute with an amazing acrobatic goal but then Nathan Flanagan hit a long range shot which snuck under Arbroath keeper David Hutton in the 26th minute. Ryan Goodfellow in the East Fife goal diverted a Ryan McCord free kick onto his post before Chris Duggan robbed Hutton of the ball to give the visitors a 3-1 half time lead.
After a series of goal mouth scrambles and goal line clearances it seemed luck wasn’t on the Lichties side but eventually after another last gasp clearance the ball broke back to Arbroath and Danny Denholm poked home in the 59th minute. Arbroath continued to push for the equaliser but despite hitting the bar and some excellent saves by Goodfellow it was East Fife who left with all 3 points.
