The Lichties recorded their 10th win in 13 games on Saturday afternoon against local Rivals Montrose. As the full time whistle blew at Gayfield the news of East Fife’s victory over Raith Rover ensured that the Lichties increased their lead at top of League One to 10 points.

Arbroath dominated early on with Bobby Linn being denied by a block from Ryan Harrington before Jordan Millar saved a close range header. Michael McKenna was also denied by Millar after a brilliant back heel from Ryan Wallace set him up.

It was Danny Denholm who opened the scoring on Saturday against Montrose in the 34th minute after being picked out by Ryan Wallace who floated over a fantastic cross. Danny twisted and turned defender Ryan Harrington before finally shooting and finding the far corner of the net.

Montrose started the second half brightly after introducing Michael Bolochoweckyj and changing formation from 442 to a 352, however only a long range effort from ex Lichtie Liam Callaghan troubled keeper Darren Jamieson.

In the 8th minute Michael McKenna picked up on a poor clearance from Seán Dillion and ran at goal. He was scythed down by Michael Bolochoweckyj but Referee Steven Reid played the advantage with Ryan Wallace shooting at goal before substitute Steven Doris taking a touch before calming slotting under the body of keeper Jordan Millar.
