Arbroath 1 – 4 Queen’s Park
Queen’s Park put Arbroath to the sword this evening with a very strong performance in challenging conditions.
Arbroath were without Derek Gaston who had been unwell all week with a bug, with Deri Corfe also missing with illness and Scott Allan, Dylan Tait and Keaghan Jacobs all missing through injury.
Cammy Gill came in for Derek Gaston whilst Michael McKenna returned after a bug replacing Dylan Tait and Florent Hoti starting in place of Daniel Fosu.
Queen’s Park attacked the Switchie end with a howling gale at their back and Arbroath had defended brilliantly under pressure with Cammy Gill making some great saves but in the 43rd minute Dom Thomas found the back of the net to open the scoring. Arbroath went on the attack but just before the half time whistle Simon Murray doubled Queen’s Park lead on a lightning quick counter attacking meaning Arbroath went into the break 2 goals down.
With the wind and rain at their back it looked like Arbroath would have the advantage for the second and Ferrie in Queen’s goal denied Dale Hilson with a great save just 2 minutes after the restart.
However Grant Savoury scored for Queen’s Park in the 52nd minute which killed the game.
The game was truly over in the 67th minute when Savoury was given too much space to turn and netted his second.
Substitute Daniel Fosu pulled one back for the Lichties with his first goal for the club from close range on the stroke of full time.
A very hard night for the Lichties.
