Arbroath 0 – 3 Aberdeen XI
The summer sunshine was replaced by the traditional Gayfield weather as a howling gale and lashing rain was the welcome for an Aberdeen XI as they took on a much changed Arbroath side.
The Dons round out winners thanks to a hat-trick by Bruce Anderson.
Referee Alan Newlands awarded a penalty to Aberdeen in the 20th minute when Ricky Little slid for the ball and looked to have won it but Dean Campbell went over the top and Bruce Anderson scored his first of the game.
Arbroath’s closet effort came with Jason Thomson rattled the Aberdeen bar with a header, but then shortly afterwards the Dons doubled their lead.
David Dangana ran down the right wing and crossed to the back post where Anderson netted from close range in the 34th minute.
Anderson claimed his hat-trick early in the second half netting in the 48th minute to claim his match-ball.
Arbroath played well in spells and Kane had a goal chalked off for offside which looked very tight and the Lichties definitely had the most possession in the second half but Paul Sheerin’s young Dons were fast and quick on the ball with Anderson showing a real nose for goal.
With 8 games in July our pre-season has now come to an end and League One starts next Saturday with a trip to Montrose!
C’mon the Lichties!
