The first game of 2017 brought out a bumper crowd of 1,731 as Arbroath welcomed Angus neighbours Montrose to Gayfield.
It was to be the goalkeepers who had the biggest influence of the game with Arbroath’s Ricky Gomes denying Paul Watson towards the end of the first half before Montrose’s Jordan Miller made a series of fine saves to deny the Lichties the break through goal.
