Remembering Adam Strachan
Everyone at Arbroath FC was shocked and saddened to hear that former player Adam Strachan has passed away.
Adam, who was only 35 played has his name in history as he was part of the special Arbroath Team in 2010/2011 which won our first ever league title in then, our 133-year history.
Adam scored the 4th goal at Gayfield in the 4-1 derby against Montrose which clinched our first ever major title.
Whilst only at Gayfield for a season Adam scored 3 goals against Elgin City, Clyde and Montrose and with 5 assists he had a very impressive record over the 16 games he played for Arbroath, with 12 starts and 4 from the bench.
Adam was a Product of the Partick Thistle Youth System, and he would go on to make 111 appearances for the Firhill side netting 5 times and helping them to a play-off win over Peterhead.
Adam also played for Ross County, Dumbarton, Albion Rovers, Clyde before moving to Arbroath, then he played for Clydebank, Irvine Meadow, Glenafton Athletic FC, East Kilbride and BSC Glasgow before a horrendous ankle injury forced him to retire from Football.
A highly talented footballer, Adam also sadly had some personal battles off the field too, but in recent years had worked with the Partick Thistle Charitable Trust trying to educate young footballers.
Tributes have been paid from the footballers and clubs who were blessed to know Adam, and everyone at Arbroath FC echoes those sentiments.
Not every player in their career wins a League Medal and Adam was a pivotal player in our title success, and we will forever be grateful for his time with the club.
Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to Adam’s family, loved ones, friends and former team-mates and clubs.
Rest in Peace Adam. Gone too soon.
