Arbroath earned a point at Firhill for the second time this season in a match that was disrupted by a number of cards, and saw both the Lichties and Partick Thistle end with ten men.
Chances were few and far between in the 0-0 draw as both sides cancelled each other out before second half red cards for Dan O’Reilly and Thomas O’Brien.
Jacob MacIntyre’s late sending off in last Saturday’s win against Dunfermline Athletic meant he was suspended for the trip to Maryhill, with Aidan Nesbitt coming in to make his first start for the club.
It was Arbroath who had the first shot on target of the afternoon through Harry Cochrane, albeit the midfielder’s shot was tame and easily held by Josh Clarke in the Thistle goal.
At the other end, the Jags mustered their first meaningful chance on the 20-minute mark when Tony Watt jinked his way between two defenders before digging out a shot that failed to trouble Aidan McAdams.
In truth, that was about it in terms of entertainment in the opening 45 as neither side managed to create any real clear-cut chances, with bookings for Gavin Reilly and Nesbitt the only other real moments of note.
Nesbitt tried his luck for the Lichties early in the second half after working himself some space, but his effort was dragged well wide of the target.
Things swung the way of Arbroath just shy of the hour mark when Partick Thistle were reduced to ten men. With the Lichties on the attack, the ball fell the way of Harry Cochrane who took aim but was caught late by O’Reilly, with the home centre back shown a straight red.
Aidan Fitzpatrick looked certain to score for the hosts soon after however, after cutting inside onto his right foot and seeing his low shot take a nick off Aaron Muirhead and hit the side netting.
Chances continued to be at a premium for the most part though, until Arbroath went close in the final ten minutes. Brilliant play from Scott Stewart ended with a cutback to Findlay Marshall, who was denied by a fabulous reflex save from Clarke.
The teams were back level again shortly after when O’Brien was adjudged to have brought down Alex Samuel as the last man and given his marching orders. Oisin Smyth sent the resulting free-kick crashing against the bar.
There was one final chance for a goal in stoppage time when St Mirren loanee Smyth was once again denied by the woodwork, seeing his shot from the edge of the area rebound off the bar, as both sides settled for a point.
