After a goalless first half in Glasgow’s Southside, Ross Callachan and Findlay Marshall both scored their first goals in maroon within six minutes of the restart to give Arbroath a cushion, which was made even more comfortable by a Jack Wilkie free kick that evaded everyone to find the net 18 minutes from time. Josh Fowler grabbed a consolation for the Spiders late on, but that wasn’t enough to stop the Lichties picking up their first three points since returning to the Championship

The 23-year-old has undoubtedly been the standout player for Queen’s Park this season, scoring five of their seven goals in the league, as well as finding the net five times in the Premier Sports Cup, meaning he has scored over three times as many goals than the next highest scorer in the squad. Indeed, only three players have netted for Queen’s, with Tyreece McDonnell and Michael Ruth sharing the other six goals between them.
Fowler hit the headlines two years ago when he moved to the United Arab Emirates to play his football, after scoring 49 goals in 78 games for Beith Juniors. Despite the Glasgow side’s lowly league position, Fowler is still making his mark and is sure to cause the Lichties defence some problems on Saturday.
Arbroath begin another home double header off the back of a strong 1-1 draw against another Glasgow side, Partick Thistle on Saturday afternoon. Findlay Marshall’s second half goal cancelled out Logan Chalmers’ early strike to earn the Lichties a point.
Only one side has left Gayfield with all three points this season, Dunfermline the victors last month, and Arbroath will be aiming to extend their strong home record when Queen’s come calling on Saturday afternoon.
The Spiders have enjoyed success on their recent visits to Angus, winning on their last four trips to Gayfield and will be looking to take some inspiration from those results as they look to win on the road for just the second time this season.
