Dunfermline have lost just twice since defeat to Arbroath in February, to the top two in the Championship.
Arbroath 4-2 Dunfermline Athletic, Saturday 21st February 2026
Arbroath came out on top in a six-goal thriller in torrential rain back in February.
Ryan Dow showed great determination to get to the ball ahead of Pars keeper Billy Terrell to give the Lichties an early lead, but they were soon pegged back as Andy Tod grabbed his fourth goal at Gayfield this season.
Into the second half, Arbroath moved ahead once more as Aaron Muirhead’s touch was diverted home by Jeremiah Chilokoa-Mullen before substitute goalie Deniz Mehmet punched a corner into his own net.
Josh Cooper reduced the deficit to one with eight minutes remaining as Dunfermline chased a leveller, but Findlay Marshall’s close range finish ensured Arbroath would claim all three points, despite finishing with ten men after Jacob MacIntyre’s late red card.
Andy Tod
Forward Tod has scored 16 goals in 40 games across all competitions to earn himself a first Scotland Under-21 call up earlier this season, as the Pars have secured a play-off spot as well as their place in the Scottish Cup Final against Celtic.
A quarter of those goals have come against Arbroath at Gayfield, including a hat-trick as Dunfermline ran riot with a 5-0 victory early in the campaign.
Games have been coming thick and fast for Dunfermline with changes sure to be made, but Tod is definitely a player the Lichties will be more than well aware of and one to keep an eye on on Friday night.
Arbroath picked up another point last weekend in a goalless draw with Partick Thistle, completing an unbeaten season against the Maryhill side.
The victory against Raith Rovers the week before had earned the Lichties their playoff spot, but with Dunfermline now just a point behind going into the final day, it will be interesting to see just how important both sides believe that third place finish to be, ahead of three meetings in the space of just eight days.
