MATCH PREVIEW. AYR UNITED VS ARBROATH. SATURDAY 11TH APRIL 2026. William Hill Championship.

Form:

L 3-0 vs Dunfermline – 7th Apr

D 1-1 vs Partick Thistle – 4th Apr

L 3-0 vs Raith Rovers – 27th Mar

L 1-0 vs Morton – 21st Mar

D 1-1 vs Queen’s Park – 14th Mar

The Honest Men are currently on a run of ten games without a win, with that victory only coming on penalties against St Johnstone in the KDM Evolution Trophy.

Indeed, you have to go a game further back to find their last victory in 90 minutes, when they defeated Raith Rovers on the 31st of January.

Last Meeting:

Arbroath 1-1 Ayr United, Tuesday 3rd March 2026

A late Anton Dowds equaliser cancelled out Findlay Marshall’s opener as these sides finished level yet again.

With the match goalless for 74 minutes, Arbroath looked to have won the game through Marshall’s tidy finish, but Dowds was able to scramble home from close range with four minutes remaining to earn Ayr a point.

Ayr’s 4-0 win in the League Cup back in July is the only victory for either side in four meetings this season, with both league clashes at Gayfield and last time out at Somerset Park ending 1-1.

One to Watch:

Ben Dempsey

It’s been a tough few months for Ayr, with captain Dempsey the man to try to pull his side through that spell.

He played a big part in that last weekend as they came from behind to earn a point against ten man Partick Thistle, and was a clear miss in the defeat to Dunfermline, due to the birth of his son.

Dempsey has popped up with two goals and  an assist since January and will be one that new boss John Rankin will look to for inspiration on Saturday.

Lichties’ Form:

St Johnstone’s 4-2 win at Gayfield last Saturday was only Arbroath’s second home defeat of the campaign, but comes at a crucial time with Dunfermline now just a point behind the Lichties with a game in hand, after going on an eight game unbeaten streak since losing to Arbroath.

Back to back defeats haven’t helped the cause, but with an 11 point gap between themselves and the four teams outside the playoffs, Arbroath know that one more positive result should secure that playoff spot.
