Arbroath took an early lead at New Central Park when Keith Watson found the net from David Gold’s cutback, but the eventual league winners were to be denied at the death.
Kelty proved to be a bit of a bogey team for the Champions last season, winning two and drawing one of the four meetings between the sides, with Callum Flatman following in to secure a point for the home side in the 97th minute on this occasion.
Innes Murray
Part of last season’s League One title winning team, Innes Murray departed Gayfield at the end of the campaign to join Kelty, where he has featured in all bar one of their games this season.
He found the net five times in 47 games for Arbroath, but has already surpassed that with the Fifers, scoring six goals, including two against Annan Athletic and Stranraer in the league phase of this competition.
Despite being bottom of League One, Murray has been a creative standout for Kelty with three assists on top of his goals, joint highest alongside Craig Johnston, and will be keen to make an impact against his former club.
Saturday’s dramatic late winner from Brooklyn Kabongolo at East End Park saw Arbroath climb back to third in the Championship table and they’ll be full of confidence ahead of the visit of second placed Partick Thistle next weekend.
There’s the matter of the KDM Evolution Trophy tie first up on Tuesday however and with just two defeats in the last ten games in all competitions, the Lichties will be eager to extend that run against their League One opponents.
Strangely, that match will be Arbroath’s fourth consecutive game against Fife opponents having drawn with Raith Rovers prior to defeating East Fife and Dunfermline. Extending that positive Fife record and unbeaten home stretch will be a priority come Tuesday.
Kelty themselves are on an odd run of games, with Arbroath their third consecutive Angus opponents following Montrose and Brechin City.
