Danny Lennon took charge of his Airdrie side for the first time since becoming manager, but was left empty handed as Arbroath took all three points at Gayfield.
A tight affair looked like it may end goalless, but a close range finish just beyond the hour mark from Nikolay Todorov was enough to earn the Lichties their first home win of the season, following the opening day draw with Ayr United.
Lennon however, was dismissed earlier this week and Airdrie will now prepare for Arbroath’s visit without a manager.
Euan Henderson
Henderson has been one bright spark in an otherwise poor season so far for the Lanarkshire side, finding the net seven times in 15 appearances. No one has scored more, while only Sean McGinty has spent more time on the pitch than the former Hearts youngster.
Four of those goals came in the Championship with only six players scoring more in the whole division. His goals against Ross County and Queen’s Park also earned the Diamonds a point in both games.
Arbroath inflicted a first defeat of the season on league leaders St Johnstone last Saturday to tighten their grip on third place in the league.
Findlay Marshall’s double either side of a Gavin Reilly tap in helped the Lichties to a 3-1 win to make it three unbeaten ahead of the trip to the Albert Bartlett Stadium on Saturday.
