Arbroath FC End of Season Awards – Introduction
Welcome to a slightly different end of season Arbroath FC award ceremony.
Normally we all join together in the boardroom after the last game of the season to celebrate together, but of course this season we can’t be together in person.
Ever since Dick and Ian Campbell arrived at the club we have all been together on a magical journey.
The Arbroath trophy cabinet has held the League 2 Trophy, then the League One Trophy, and this season we have finished 5th in the Championship.
There will always be questions about what could have been for this season, but everyone’s health and safety are far more important.
We have 6 announcements this evening.
The Angus Nairn Trophy (Best Newcomer of the year) Voted by the Board of Directors
The George Baird Trophy (Manager’s Player of the Year) Voted by the Management Team
The AFC Board of Directors Player of the Year – Voted by the Board of Directors
Goal of the Season – Voted by our amazing supporters
Young Player of the Season – Voted by our amazing supporters
Player of the Season – Voted by our amazing supporters
Thank you all so much for your votes. We have received the most online votes in any of our previous online polls, and you really have had a tough choice with such a talented squad of players to choose from.
We shall start tonight off with a message for Arbroath Chairman, Mike Caird
“Despite its early conclusion it’s been another fantastic season to be an Arbroath FC supporter and the awards presented tonight will reflect what I have said at the previous two Player of the Year awards that the groups of players that Dick and his Management team keep assembling get better year on year, with this current squad of players in my view the best that have ever worn the “maroon strip”.
“Individuals win these awards but I’m sure they will be the first to acknowledge that it’s very much a team effort by everyone to finish in 5th place in our first season in the Championship. I’m also delighted to announce that the vast majority of players have committed themselves to the Club and will again be up for the challenge next season.
Can I also personally thank every one of our supporters who follow us each week for your magnificent and loyal backing of the team. We are facing very difficult times in football next season but I know with your 100% support for the Club this will help us get through the crisis we are all facing”
Thank you all
