Arbroath Football Club are delighted to announce that Andrew Wilbourn has agreed to join the club as Assistant Secretary.
Andrew has been a long time supporter of the club in various voluntary roles including hospitality, fundraising and the clubs community work. However, for the last 8 months he has been heavily involved in learning the secretarial duties at the club. Assisting the club’s Secretary Gary Callon on match days and at peak times during the transfer and loan windows when player registrations are a priority and require to be urgently and diligently dealt with.
Andrew has been a supporter of the club for many years and he has regularly followed the team both home and away. Speaking on his appointment Andrew said “I am absolutely delighted to have been asked to officially join the club. When I was approached about helping with the Secretary work earlier this year I was really keen to get involved. I had no idea the scale of work that goes on behind the scenes on a day to day and week to week basis at the club and I am really excited to be playing my part”. Chairman Brian Cargill said “I have always stated that it is important we get the right people to join the club in the right areas to continue to drive forward development in our off the field activities. At the recent AGM I informed the members that the board had identified key areas where we we needed to provide additional support. This was to deal with excessive workloads of individuals and ensure we do not have single person dependencies issues. The sheer scale of work that our current Secretary Gary Callon has had to deal with over the past few years is not sustainable with pressures and work growing rapidly as the Club continues to develop and it was important we got the right person to support Gary to help share the responsibility. The enthusiasm and diligence that Andrew has already shown proves he will be a great support and asset to Arbroath FC. I can’t think of a better fit for the club in this very important and critical position.
Andrew is born and bred in Arbroath and he has the clubs’ interests at heart which is very important to me. Andrew is an Assistant Accountant with Soufflet Bairds Malt Ltd in Arbroath with his professional role requiring extreme diligence and professionalism which is key for this position. I am excited about this appointment and everyone at the club is looking forward to working with Andrew to collectively take the club forward both on and off the park.”
